We are very privileged and honored by the fact that Ercole Spada, designer of the Alfa Romeo Giulia GT 1300 Junior Zagato, has become patron of our foundation 'Het Junior Zagato Archief'.

The Junior Zagato was presented at the Turin Motor Show in November 1969 and was very modern and revolutionary already at that time. Obviously the tail was remarkable, but what do you think of the headlights integrated in the front ...?! Very normal today, but extraordinary in those days. Even the plexiglass front with the unmistakable Alfa Romeo heart cut out like a sort of negative, how innovative it was! It is a beautiful example of functionality and simplicity and shows Ercole Spada's understanding of the world that is changing around us.

In 2019, the car was celebrating its 50th birthday and still today it's a modern coupé......Timeless...

In 1960, the year in which Ercole Spada started working for Zagato, his first project was the Bristol 406 GTZ and immediately after he designed the beautiful Aston Martin DB4 Zagato.

E’ un onore per noi aver avuto il privilegio che Ercole Spada, designer dell’Alfa Romeo Giulia GT 1300 Junior Zagato, sia diventato il Patron della nostra Fondazione 'Het Junior Zagato Archief'.

La Junior Zagato fu presentata al Salone dell’Automobile di Torino nel Novembre del 1969; già a quei tempi  fu considerata una vettura estremamente moderna e rivoluzionaria. La parte posteriore era eccezionale, ma cosa ne dite dei fari integrali nella parte anteriore...?! Oggi una consuetudine, ma elementi straordinari a quei tempi. Perfino il frontale in plexiglass, con l’inconfondibile cuore Alfa Romeo, realizzato 'in negativo', era assolutamente innovativo! E’ un bell’esempio di semplicità, purezza e funzionalità, testimone dell’interpretazione di Ercole Spada di come cambia il mondo attorno a noi. Quest’anno, il 2019, la Junior Zagato festeggia il suo 50° anno di vita ed è ancora moderna. Bella opera senza tempo ….

Ercole Spada cominciò a lavorare per Zagato nel 1960; il suo primo progetto fu la Bristol 406 GTZ e, subito dopo, disegnò la bellissima Aston Martin DB4 Zagato .

Ercole Spada, the designer of 'our' Junior Zagato, has won the 'matita d'oro' (the golden pencil) 2017.
What a fantastic and deserved recognition of his work and talent. We still are grateful every day that he designed this revolutionary and beautiful car that still is modern nowadays.
